Welcome to The Shop

left Alone, Our Neighborhoods don’t grow equitably

This project looks into whether neighborhoods can develop and not leave Black and Immigrant families behind. Furthermore, what is the role a business district plays in that equation?

In exploring this site, you will find:

1) The Capstone Report which walks you through the methodology, research findings, and proposed solutions

2) The DAAPWorks 2025 exhibit which takes you into “The Shop”, an intentionally designed, community third space in a future version of East Price Hill.

Daapworks 2025 Exhibit Features

  • My mom use to tell me: “Be quick, but don’t hurry”. Can neighborhoods develop in ways that increase the value & quality of life for residence of color? How has this looked in Cincinnati? What can be learned?

  • Controlling the narrative is just as important as site control if the goal is development that will support Black and immigrant growth. To give balanced growth a chance, certain circumstances must exist and the intentionality in the actions of all concerned players must be aligned.

  • We have to build foundation, not just facades. It’s difficult to have a good quality of life without food, clothing, quality shelter, health & safety and economic and educational opportunity. Explore implementable policy interventions that directly impact those determinants.

  • Step into a future East Price Hill. How have built environment, policy and social interventions.

  • The neighborhood collection appears to be a mediocre shirt design - but explore further, and it tells a perspective of the neighborhood.
